Winding further through Les Puces we were guided to another booth owned by the wonderful Les Elleweilles de Babalou. This time in the
@ Stand 14 on
To counter act the other location which was uber girlie. This booth is stocked mostly with wonderful male friendly goodies. Bow ties, ties and shoes galore this will keep the "manskies" amused.

Although you know I would never steer you anywhere that wasn't lady friendly. There are also beautiful things here for us gals as well. Including Dior and Madamn Grès!

First and foremost, I apologize. I am a terrible, terrible blogger. At least I have been for the past few months. Blame it on summer, blame it on the hustle and bustle of NYC, blame it on me, hell "blame it on the rain". All in all I have no excuses. Well scratch that, maybe I do... For one I moved to LA! Yes you heard me, native NYker, lover of all things European and here I am..... in LA?! In any case I am here and surprisingly very happy to be! I haven't been away long enough to miss NY but I woke up this morning desperately missing Paris! Then I remembered I took my summer blogging hiatus smack dab in the middle of my Paris posts. So if you don't mind (given anyone is reading this) I am going to finish those shop posts from the beloved city of lights, and reminisce about that oh so wonderful trip!!
So we're back at "Les Puces" literally meaning the fleas, as my beloved frenchies refer to it. Which is also a very casual and familiar term of endearment "ma puce" ie: my flea. I think it's too adorable, but I digress.....
So in Les Puces @ There is another incredible shop that you must see. Called Les Elleweilles de Babellou. It's a charming place filled with rare and designer goodies, all impeccably kept and displayed. A feast for the eyes and very possibly famine for the wallet. You'll find almost too many things that are MUST haves.

For me Les Elleweilles de Babalou ended the search for my wedding dress!! Oh wait... No one has yet to ask... Heck I should have bought it anyway. Preparation, preparation, you know?!

I felt like such a girl here. Trinkets and pinks and hats and things. You may want to make your gentlemen friend wait outside as it's a bit of estrogen overload, and you may find yourself involuntarily cooing and ahhhing.

Paris Shops: Les Puces de Saint-Ouen: Falbalas "Modes Vintage Dentelles"

OK maybe I say this all the time, but I mean it! This is one of my favorite places to shop in Paris!! Located at the Marché Dauphine in the clignancourt market, Falbalas is well.... simply fabulous! The Marché Dauphine houses mainly furniture but just pop your self up a flight of stairs and this little gem takes up booths 85-87.

Maybe I love this place partly because I am so very smitten with the wonderfully divine femme who owns the booth, as well as her strikingly debonair beau (who sadly wasn't there this visit).

Check out her gorgeous wood and bronze insect broaches!

These two have exquisite taste and always a wide range of beautifully hand picked vintage. They specialize in victorian with a mix of 20's-50's garb and accessories. Many of the pieces at Falbalas are museum and collection worthy and they run a hefty business for costume rental as well as having a line of vintage inspired shoes that you can order in any size.

There are fun things to see in every corner you look.

Paris Shops: Les Puces de Saint-Ouen David Roy

More yummy treats courtesy of Les Puces. One of my favorite vendors a couple of years ago was the fantastic David Roy, which was always stocked with a wonderful selection of designer RTW frocks and foot wear. Although when we went searching for it this trip, we were sad to find a sort of watered down, weeded out version of what I remembered. After thumbing through the clothing for a while and chatting with the guy who was watching the shop he asked if we had been to the new location. What's that you say?? He closed up shop and escorted us over to Allie 1, Stand 3 in the Marché Vernaison. When we arrived we were pleasantly satisfied!

David Roy now carries primarily high end vintage couture. With some really special and unique designer picks from Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Celine, Oscar de la Renta and the like. All very well cared for and in pristine condition. The space is beautifully laid out with a plush carpet, a purple velvet chaise in the corner and beautiful prints filling the walls. You can almost lose yourself and forget you're in the middle of the flea market.

Loads of lovely trinkets and accessories as well.

Paris Shops: Les Puces de Saint-Ouen FLORENCE NUGUE

One of my favorite things to do in the wonderful city of Paris is to roam for hours around the INCREDIBLE flea Market. It has to be one of my favorite places to shop on earth! I could spend my whole trip here. If they would let me pitch a tent and crash over night I do believe I would. One of the best stalls is number

Florence Nugue has the perfect mix of everything. Including clothing, accessories, furniture and interesting little trinkets. It's also extremely organized and artfully merchandised. So although you feel like you are uncovering little gems, you don't really have to dig around and get you hands dirty. Not that I don't take pleasure in that as well! This stall really gives you the feeling you are roaming around some collectors home. It's intimate, friendly and inviting.

This was so interesting. They speculate that it may be either an old hot water bottle. Or possibly a way to smuggle illegal alcohol. Looked like a proper sized little flask to me. But then again, I may have a problem.... HA!

The Clignancourt Market is huge and vast. So be ready to give your little "pieds" a bit of a work out. You can find Florence Nugue in the Marché Vernaison, Allée 1 Stand 29. When you find it "Tell Them Taryn Sent You"!

Chine Machine has awesome vintage with really reasonable prices and a ton of personality! There is a good mix of merchandise here and a pretty lot of it so you may have to spend some time flipping through but it's TOTALLY worth it! We spent hours here chatting with the incredible shop girl who, just to rub it in my one language speaking face spoke 3, including sparkling perfect English damn you (but thank you!!) you beautiful, friendly and trilingual woman! We had a ton of fun here in and out of the dressing room and found some real gems.

Paris Shops: Brocante

Here's another reason why I love Paris (as if I needed more). We were roaming around Montmarte, I had a couple of leads on cool shops and wanted to revisit some I had been to before but could only slightly remember where exactly they were. So I planned for a bit of roaming, which in Paris is more of a pleasure than an inconvenience. You get to see beautiful architecture, meet interesting people, stop for a glass of wine when the old "pieds" need a rest and best of all you have the opportunity to stumble upon something like this.

We came across this little treasure!

at first I wasn't sure if it was open, or what exactly it was in fact. Although as I squinted my eyes to peer inside I saw the sweet and welcoming face of the shop owner beckoning me in.

Once inside I was beyond words. It was like standing inside an antique museum. Every where I looked there was something beautiful and interesting to hold my attention. It is a wonderful resource for any Vintage Shopper, Wardrobe/Jewelry Designer or Costumer. First my eyes went right to this pin cushion stabbed to it's capacity with a sparkly plethora of gorgeous brooches and pins.

Then I almost stumbled over myself to get to these. Leather button up leg ware?? I practically busted open the victorian buttons so I could try and fit them around my ham hock sized legs. As I did I looked over at the sweet and gracious shop owner who said in a polite and lovely chuckle, Madmoiselle, c'est pour les enfants..." Oh sheesh! Yes, yes of course for "les enfants", for children. Right. Rats, not another reason to have a baby, note to self HAVE A BABY. Ok what's next?

a box of vintage hats and cloches?? YES! Thank you that will do! Scratch the baby! No have the baby AND take the leather leggings. Aiy! My brain is just too confused with all these beautiful things!!!

and then... Oh glory. This hat was just too divine. The site of it calmed me.

There are also drawers and drawers full of beautiful antique knitting and sewing notions, buttons, pins, thread and other necessities.

A case filled with gorgeous victorian head combs, pins, earrings and more.....

To be honest, my head was spinning from all of the amazing things in Brocante I feel my pictures hardly do it justice. It's just one room but I could have spent the whole day there. Brocante will definitely be on my list of shops to frequent whenever I visit Paris. If you have the chance I would definitely seek this place out.

Paris Shops: L'Objet qui Parle

In the 18th Arr. Take a stroll down to number 86 on

(Near Rue D'Orsel)

There is a little beautiful and mysterious shop called

"L'Objet qui Parle", which very fittingly means "The Object that Speaks". It's name gives way to how intriguing the actual boutique is. The antique and inviting items spilling outside welcome you into this tiny little room filled to the gills with gorgeous antique crystal chandeliers, random taxidermy animals, religious paraphernalia among other intrigues. Just standing in this place for a minute will transport you to another place as it is bizzare and beautiful indeed.

Take a peek inside!

For a practical purchase I would look to the lighting fixtures as well as the antique kitchen wares. But if you're in the market for a stuffed owl there's a couple of those as well....

Paris Shops: Caverne a Fripes

You'll find this unassuming little shop in the 18th Arrondissement on

You can take the Metro to Rue Des Abbesses and you are just a couple of blocks away. Walk down Rue Des Abbesses turn on Rue Houdon and look for the little yellow sign. When you get there you walk down a few steps to enter into this cavern like double room full of dusty little gems.

I love this little place as it is real Parisian thrifting. The racks are bursting with stuff, there are piles in every corner and the shop owner is a slightly surly but loving gentleman who plays chess and smokes cigarettes while you shop.

We pulled out these as some of our favorite finds.

This one because doesn't every gal need a moo moo covered in zodiac symbols?

Yet shoppers keep in mind... I wouldn't really haggle with this guy, and I'll tell you the story of why in this little tale about a certain Guy Laroche silk jacket. You see I spotted this beautiful Guy Laroche silk jacket. I must admit it really was a find. It was in great vintage condition and priced quite reasonably at 20 Euros. But personally I AM going against the US dollar and I WAS thinking I would want to change the buttons and Hey, I AM just a single girl living on a single girls budget (excuses, excuses). So we were bold and asked if that would be his final price. I know, I know I should have just left well priced, in good condition, vintage designer lie but I figured well why not? Who knows? It can't hurt to ask. Well yes... yes in fact in CAN hurt to ask. He gave us this look of calm disbelief and in a grunt that can only be achieved with many years of experience (in shopping as well as smoking) he said "Mais, c'est Guy Laroche, et ce n'est pas cher". Needless to say I did blush a little and place the jacket down for a minute, more to regain my pride and re check my wallet. But as I did he picked up the jacket, scribbled something on it's label and disappeared into the other room. We put our attention else where but all the time I was thinking of my Guy Laroche, where he had taken it and what he had written on it's now very attractive price tag. When I found it, just as I expected he had remarked the jacket at 30 euros!.... Ouch. Sometimes I should just keep my big mouth shut. At that point I was too embarrassed to ask for it at the original 20euros (damn my pride) So... Ok fine Monsieur, well played. You win this one.

But then to ease my troubles I spotted this on the way out!and at 10 euros it was within my meager single gals budget. So THERE, take that! She's mine now and isn't she wonderful?! I also felt better when I paid and Monsieur gave me a sweet little wink as well as a "Bonne Journée", insuring that all is fair in Love, War and Vintage Shopping! Go visit Canverne et Frips and Tell Them Taryn Sent You! Happy Shopping but beware do NOT mock the prices!

Paris Shops: Mercy, Merci!

You can find this marvel of a shop in the 3rd Arr. @ number 111 on

just at the corner of Rue Du Pont Choux

So here's the story behind this fantastic place they call Merci as I heard it. Ah hem. So, basically the daughter of the family owned Bonpoint sold the business and with that money opened up this fabulous Boutique! In a desire to "give back" all of Merci's proceeds go to charity (except for what it takes to upkeep and run it I would assume). Which should help to ease the guilt you may experience due to to the inevitable damage you will do to your wallet here! This ain't your average charity shop. Merci carries top designers such as: Vanessa Bruno, Isabel Marant, YSL, and APC... to name a few. There are 3 floors of incredible (if not exactly fugal) shopping here including Women's, Men's and Children's apparel, a Home Store, a Flower Shop, a Parfumerie, Accessories, Shoes and Furniture. I know, I know it's kind of a wonderland!

My beautiful friend Lee (who was introducing me to this shop) arranged to meet me in the cafe on the first floor. Before we got down to business Lee had a cafe creme and I downed a mix of fresh fruit juice (yum!) to fuel up. Directly after we walked upstairs to scope things out. We immediately gravitated to the expansive women's clothing section (of course)!

Then I got distracted...Oh no, oh wait. What is this? It can't be. Don't let me do it! Don't let me touch it. If I touch it, I swear I may just go running out of here in a frantic fashion frenzy and not look back! Someone please, move me away from this rack!

Oh sheesh... I think we are going to have a problem here....

The Home section is a dream

and we found these rolled up/rip off napkins and place mats to be so clever!

The children's section is packed with well, Bonpoint of course! A short little stroll through here had my empty womb calling out to me to go and get myself knocked up immediately! The clothes are just too adorable. Lee was asking if they had things in her size! I just started looking around for a potential baby daddy...

Every thing here is laid out and merchandised in such an appealing way. You really just want to wonder around, look and unfortunately for whomever is footing the bill, buy everything. Because there really isn't much you CAN'T buy at Merci! Including molded face masks?!a selection from the parfumerie

Dance à la Paris

My dancing feet getting ready to leave for class.

The other day I decided to take a dance class in Paris. In my former life I was a dancer. Now as a slightly clumsy adult I still love to take class for the pure joy of it. I hooked up with a girl I met through my friend and we headed over together. It was a wonderful day, we wandered around, stopped at a park, got lost and laughed through the whole debacle.

When we got to the studio I immediately loved the vibe. The sounds of different types of music from all over the world pouring out of every studio door. Peeking in to find people full of sweat dancing their little butts off. I just love the dance culture. It's not always this laid back and free but when it is it is electrifying! We initially were going to take an african dance class but by the time we arrived the only class that was available was a dance hall reggae class! I laughed and said "okay, why not I'll try it!" The class was starting right then so after I registered I just ripped off my skirt (I was wearing my leotard and tights underneath) and jumped in.

The class was too much fun. It was wild, at one point the teacher turned off all the lights and had a colored disco ball- like contraption going which made everyone feel like they were at a dance party! Hahaha It was so funny. I could not stop smiling the whole time if not openly laughing at myself in my little leotard and tights hitting these hard dance hall beats, not always exactly correctly I might add.

As I was leaving I thanked the teacher for a great class with a simple "Merçi Beaucoup!". He pulled me aside and began to speak to me in his perfect, fast and unfortunately indecipherable to me French. I excused myself and said in my not so perfect, slow and probably equally indecipherable French "Désolé, Je ne parle pas Français..." He looked at me with utter surprise and said in English "WHAT?? You don't speak French? How did you know what I was saying? How did you take corrections when I told you?" I again whipped out my sad and unfortunate French and said "Je ne parle pas Français Monsieur, mais Je parle Danse!" He laughed and gave me a wink and said "please come back again". I blushed and told him "Bien sûr"!

And that is the beauty of dance. I didn't really need to know what everyone was saying... I let my instincts take over and just kind of moved collectively with the music and the other dancers. It was a freeing and wonderful feeling and I can't wait to go back! and I will! Just as soon as my legs heal from their INSANE soreness.....

Paris Packing: It's an Art Form

I find that when you travel it really makes you aware of the items in your wardrobe you value the most. Of course the clothing you pack depends on many variables including the weather in the destination you are traveling to, the feel of the place and what you will be doing there. But packing also reveals which garments you truly love. It asks the question "what can I NOT leave home with out" Your MUST haves for a trip. I feel like have gotten to a point where I know my wardrobe really well. My clothes and I, we're pretty tight. I definitely have a deeper connection with them than I have had with many of my ex boyfriends and in some ways more love and respect. Haha (sadly, I'm only slightly joking.) But I digress.....

I have definitely developed a uniform of sorts. In a way I think we all do. I spent years being bowled over by the newest trend and passing fad trying to wear them all until I realized that somethings simply don't suit me. I know that I am not much of a girly girl. A ruffle or a light pink makes me feel like a silly oaf and I hate anything with a kitten heel so much it makes my teeth hurt. Oh ugh even their name, terrible. I have widdled my jean collection down to about 5 pairs that love and I re buy them as they wear out. If I really love a cut I may buy 2 pairs at the same time. This is a trick I picked up from an old friend of mine who is definitely not one for pinching pennies and I admit that at first I thought it was superfluous and wasteful. Although if you know you really love something and have the means, it's a great idea especially with brands constantly changing cuts. JBrand jeans are definitely my all time favorites. And the essential little black dress? I've got about 6 with different cuts, lengths and fabrics. I've almost gotten to the point where I absolutely adore everything hanging in my closet.

So Paris! In the Spring! What does one pack?? My necessary objects were:

Joie Tank TopsThese have really become staples for me. They are the best material, the best cut for me and they go with everything. I had a similar shirt to them for years which was a vintage find. When it finally went caput, Joie started making these tanks (thank you oh gods of fashion). The Joie tanks are almost identical to my old trusty top and they now make them in a plethora of different colors and patterns. Many brands have since re made it ie: Club Monaco, Theory, Old Navy, Banana Republic and so on but I find Joie to be far superior. They are not exactly inexpensive starting at $108 and then moving upward in price depending on the pattern and length but these circulate in my wardrobe so often that I really feel they are worth it.

JBrand Jeans

I brought 4 pairs of jeans for the month. Black skinnies, Grey skinnies with a zipper leg, Distressed Blue Baggie Boyfriend jeans and my dark Blue Straight/Wide legs. This gives me enough color/wash and shape variation to cover any outfit option.

Shoes I brought 6 pairs. Ok this may be a bit over indulgent to some, but a shoe and a jacket can really spice anything up so I like to have options. Here's what I packed:

Classic Chuck Taylors in white which I wear with mostly skirts and dresses to make them feel more casual and fun. High Heeled Lace ups Boots that I bought at Century 21 last year. I wear them on the plane as they would take up a lot of space were I to pack them and they slip on and off like a breeze so they are perfect for the inevitable "debooting" at security. Steve Madden Men's Inspired Woven Flats. I love them because they are completely comfortable and have a air of casual but can look quite put together. Brown Wedge Buckle Sandals from 9 west. My friend John John has a pretty graphic phrase to describe these little numbers. Let's just say, the boys definitely take notice when I am wearing 'em. High Heeled Black Booties again 9 west. They are sexy but practical and pretty basic. Lastly Simple Black Ballet Flats. Urban Outfitters has a great selection of perfectly shaped ballet flats. I love the ones which the material is similar to grosgrain ribbon and they come in basic black and cream as well as a bunch of beautiful jewel tones.

Then there are my Jackets and boy do I love a jacket.

My Paris Flea Market find

This is the hardest decision for me when packing. This trip I opted for: A Vintage Yves Saint Laurent Black Blazer, my Vintage Army Green Short Sleeved Coat with a really cool cut that I bought at the flea market here in Paris during my last trip, a Nicole Farhi Black Swing Coat that I thrifted at the Portobello Market in London and a lined and Hooded Black Leather Jacket for the chillier nights.

As for my skivies and undergarments well you just mind your manners! But nothing took up too much room. I was all set for a month in Paris with one medium sized suitcase and a carry on. I find this to be a great feat. The best part is I knew I had all my essentials.

Oh and did I mention I packed an extra duffle bag to bring home some Paris pick'ens?

À Paris!

I have the wonderful privilege of spending a month in Paris! I adore this city. I think of it as a quaint NY without subtitles. My french is shotty at best but somehow I manage to get by. I smile a lot and say many "Pardons" and "S'il Vous Plaîts".

Things I love about Paris:

The Cafe's: There's one on every block and not only can you, but it is absolutely acceptable to sit in one, all day if you so choose, whether you have a 5 course meal, or only order a coffee.

The Drinking Policy: No one even so much as gives you a second look if you have a glass of wine (or 2!) in the afternoon. This custom is not exclusive to tourists or people on vacation. The French often have wine with lunch and then head back to work. My kind of city.

The Women: French women are just sexy. I am not only talking about the young lolita types ie: Ludivine Sagnier (meow) but women well into their 60's and 70's are hot. They dress with such style, carry themselves with poise and have this overall air of beauty and confidence. Of course this is not indicative of all french women but I tell you, even the saucy street women have some of that "Je ne sais quoi".

The Food: The first time I ever came to Paris I remember being so tickled that people really do buy their bread fresh everyday and walk home nibbling their baguettes. Even the crepes from street vendors taste divine. Most important, things spoil! With out all the indecipherable chemicals and preservatives most things are quite fresh. You go to your local Fromagerie and Boucherie to buy things to be eaten that day or soon thereafter.

The Lay of the Land: I am staying in the 6th Arrondissement and parts of the Church on Saint Germain Boulevard have been there since the 6th Century. There is a true respect for historic architecture and culture here. Being from the United States where every time I return home something has been knocked down and rebuilt into something unrecognizable this is a welcoming rarity. Most buildings have amazing balconies spilling over with ivy and potted plants and every corner you turn there is a well cared for public garden/park. The colors here are beautiful as well. I often find myself walking around and becoming transfixed on the shade of blue on an apartment door or the subtle muted red of a random sign.

The People: Now I know I will get some crinkled noses at this one but, I simply adore the French! They're tough in a way I find understandable and even charming. It's true, they do make you work for their affections. In any shop/restaurant or tabac you must convey politeness and respect. With out it you get the cold shoulder but with a little genuine kindness and an attempt at the language (for me at this point it really is still just an attempt) they warm up like fondue. Being from NY I am used to this sort of attitude and you can call me a glutton for punishment but I love it!

The Language: Admit it every thing sounds better in French, it just does.

I have been here a little over a week and I find myself enjoying the most mundane things. Going to the grocery, buying the paper, sitting and having coffee. I feel like I am in a wonderfully romantic film. Granted I may be over romanticizing it a bit, but darn it I just can't help it, and it feels as though the city it self is encouraging me to do so.

I LOVE my NY. I miss it dearly and will be so happy to return home when it is time, but in the interim I am going to relish in this marvelous affair!

It is frighteningly chilling how etherial and beautiful McQueens last collection is. A final statement to his legacy. I am struck by how simply beautiful his models look and what a contrast that is to the often over the top, dark and almost painful look to many of his prior collections:

This last collection is so pretty. There is still that unmistakable McQueen edge but is is also so flattering and feminine. Such a sad and sobering occurrence his passing was. It makes the beauty of all this extremely bittersweet.

Ch Ch Ch Changes!

Hello Lovelies.

Since the new year I have been grappling with many inner and personal changes. Mostly realizations about career, life goals and the like. For some time (read: all my life) I have wondered "what do I want to do with my life" Some people have always known what that specific thing is, I on the other hand have not had that experience. Throughout my life I have done MANY things and pretty much loved them all. Currently I am a fashion stylist and while I thoroughly enjoy my job I always find myself searching for more I dance, I draw, I write.... I have always loved fashion, art, beautiful things and the like. Although I have learned the thing that turns me on the most is seeing people live life to the fullest, however that pertains to them. I know that may sound general. I think the film "Man on a Wire" sums up my thinking perfectly. That movie makes me cry every time I watch it. A man with such passion. Although the actual act or performance is outlandish and some may say self indulgent, seeing someone with such utter hunger and complete commitment to his life's mission fills me with a crazy excitement.

Why am I indulging you in all this?? Sorry if I digress... I am getting to that! I have changed the "tag" of my blog. I wanted it to include more of the wonderful things that life involves. "Earthly Desires are Enlightenment" is a concept in the buddhism I study and brings up the idea that our desires are not something to be suppressed or denied (which as human beings we know is somewhat impossible) but when understood and approached from a Buddhist perspective our desires can actually lead us to enlightenment. You can read more about this in this wonderful article.

With that, please note the change and please keep checking in. I am really excited to keep exploring and sharing.

I remember when BIRD first opened in my "hood" and I was so super excited, I have been wanting to post about it ever since. First off the space itself is just so pleasant to be in. Ah, thank you Missoni... Listen NY winters can be a bit grim I tell ya. Yes it's sunny but it's COLD. Everyone's heads are back down to the pavement (including mine). Not much spontaneous or candid social interactions. The holidays help a bit but this year I must say I am a bit of a scrooge... Say what you will of me but sometimes it's the little things that will perk you up. These Missoni knits being what did it for me today. (Don't laugh) I love the mixing of patterns and that slightly kitchy funky grandma thing going on... and as thrown together and haphazard as these looks may seem, there is method to this madness. It's the perfect mix of patterns with a commonality in color that pulls it all together. Inspires me to get out my needles (knitting needles that is).... Even if all I can muster up will be a really long scarf. Still it's the effort and intention no? Merry Merry.

Here are some tears for an idea I was thinking to do for a little impromptu photo shoot. Gritty film close ups of just pieces of a women's body. Mostly hands and feet and legs. Black and whites or could also include one a really saturated deep color, like a blood black red or blue. Would be a nice way to close up in on a fabric or one accessory. Creating a mysterious, sexy and almost voyeuristic feeling.

A couple weekends back I was slightly hoodwinked into a spending a weekend with my mother upstate. I say hoodwinked because I was informed (only after the 2+ hour drive and safely out of the car) the weekend would be without any cable or internet.... grrr. So with the extra time on my hands among many other "prairie" like activities... I sat and took pictures in the antique and imperfect mirror over the bathroom sink to see the images it would reflect. Below is my favorite.

Then, this morning I was flipping through some photography inspiration and by happenstance I came across these by Ed Van Der Elsken. I am just obsessed with mirror reflections, especially when the quality and essence of the mirror adds to the story. These are just so moving. Ed Van Der Elsken's book of "Love on the Left Bank" is the one of the most beautiful things I have seen.

Oh and THANK YOU MOM! For reminding me I can survive with out my blackberry!

If I were to describe this store in one word it would be SEXY..... but since I'm a little mouthy I'll give you a couple more! Open less than a year Stella Filante is stocked with items that will make your man (or potential man eyeing you at the end of the bar) swoon! Sparkles and studs galore (holiday dresses anyone?) it's like candy for the eyes. They have the biggest collection of Antik Batik which is enough of a draw in and of itself. The shop is huge, especially for lower east side standards, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully laid out. It has a subtle modern aesthetic and the perfect amber lighting and use of natural wood in the design give it a really warm and welcoming feel. You could spend the whole afternoon here going in and out of the dressing room while you and your girl friends play runway, rifle through the seemingly endless inventory and lounge out on the plush leather couches. I went here on a Friday night with my only plans to go home, sit on the couch, stuff my face with popcorn and watch a cheezy flick. Yet once my eyes were tantalized by all of Stella Filante's saucy options I was having visions of calling up all my ladies, throwing on that sequined gold backless number (see below) and finding out where the nearest party was.... Stella Filante just seems to have that effect! (Alas I still found myself on the couch that evening covered in popcorn kernels but that's an issue for another post maybe..)

I have been a long time fan of this store, one for it's really beautiful and calming aesthetic and also (of course) because of it's AMAZING inventory. Shop Owner Shana Tabor keeps her place always immaculate and always chocked full of great finds.

2 Guys from Kenya

Last week I was riding my bike through in the West Village and passed these two gents hanging out on the stoop of a brownstone. Being a typical born and bred NYker I smiled and rode right past thinking nothing of it.... a block later I thought wait a second...... I rode back around and asked if I could take a picture of them. The colors were so beautiful and vibrant on the clear sunny crisp day. The blue of the sky mixing with the reds of the fabric, the dark forrest green of the front door all complimented by the jack o lantern in the window. We got to chatting (after the one guy hung up his mobile phone) and they are actually in NY by way of Texas, shooting a new show for National Geographic called "2 guys for Kenya" (if the name sticks) due to air this spring. I'll have my eyes open to see these two again for sure.

Owner and Designer Kathy Kemp has really created an East Village staple. The store has staying power and for good reason. It's fantastic. I especially love all of Kathy's dresses. They are so wearable, chic and comfy as well as extremely versatile. These really are dresses for "every girl" no matter your size or style. Kathy's dresses can be worn by so many types of women. Guaranteed you'll find AT LEAST one item you can't live with out.

I pulled her aside to ask about it and turns out the designer is not a part of collective but he was there and I met him and got his personal info. His line is called Olori by Adeleke Sijuwade. A visit to his showroom is in order. I will post pics and hopefully have some more info about where we can obtain these delectable pieces!

I feel as though I have been away for so long. Busy busy in this here crazy city. Shooting and working and...shopping. The thing I am most excited about are the insane sales with everyone ridding their stores of the last of their summer gear I find this is the best time to stock up on the Basics. I have been in desperate need of yummy cotton t's and tanks for layering and everyday wear. Last weekend while shopping for my beau (yes there is a new beau!) I entered Barney's coop for the first time in a long time. I try to stay away when I am trying to be frugal be cause I feel as though if given half the chance I would buy up the whole shop. So while I have the beau in the dressing room trying on my selects for him (a beautiful Marc Jacobs sport jacket, a gant button down, Paul Smith slacks) I non chalantly..... (read: in cold desperate sweats) peruse the women's and fall in love once again with, among many other things that I refuse to even let myself look at (focus!!) the Wang... Alexander that is. They are perfect for me, yummy juicy soft cotton t back tanks and t's some long some short all priced around 80 bucks. My friend has a couple of his t-shirts that she is actually quite disappointed in. She told me that she was finding rips and holes after the 1st hand wash! So I heed this comment, check my wallet, hold in my heart and move on. I am determined in my search so I go to my frugal basic go to's.... and am tickled to find at Banana Republic, basically direct knock offs of the wangs in the perfect black white and taupe colors for... get this. $16 bones (on sale) for the tank and $34 for the "dress". and 100% beautiful cotton t's for... wait for it. $7 bucks! I am in heaven. I stock up and 2 full bags later I am thanking the shopping gods. I pop in next door to Jcrew and pick up from the sale rack 4 thin silk blend tanks for $14 dollars each. Bring it. Sorry Wang but this chick likes a bargain!

Summer into Fall.... The Transition

I had a friend of mine request that I write a post regarding this Seasonal Change and the circumstantial wardrobe confusion. Here in NY we are at that crux position between our balmy balmy summer and quite chilly fall. Along with the rising problem of our current global climate dilemmas this already challenging time of year has recently become even harder to outfit. So the story goes something like this:

We are, as we have been for months frolicking around in our little summer dresses, tanks, shorty short shorts and sandals (yes NY in the summer is a dream of sexy ladies scantly clad) and then BAM! you wake up and it's 50degrees. What the "bu" jesus to do?? Well, all of our storage situations are different, I know that in NY with our tiny apts we often opt to store our off season items with friends/family members who have real people houses that are not the size of shoe boxes but are often far from city reach attainable only by some highway or public transport of sorts, but I digress.... If you are fortunate enough to have ready access to your clothes or willing to take a trip, I recommend doing a partial transition:

In this process you want to start storing the bulk of your really summery items, this can be judged by fabric weight as well as color. You can still keep some dresses and tanks even shorts. You also want to go through your fall/winter items and do the same. It is not time to bust out your big puffy down, but grab some of your blazers and lighter weight jackets, leggings long sleeve tops and trousers. This time is all about layering. Wear your favorite summer dress, but throw on your jean jacket/blazer and a light weight scarf. Wear a skirt with leggings/tights or a flowy summer tank with a long sleeve layer underneath. I suggest that if you are wearing layers on top ie: a jacket and a scarf leave your legs bare and vice versa I mean come on it 'ain't THAT cold. My least favorite thing is when people push a season, You know that guy at the first sign of spring is out in Tevo's (Yikes) and shorts. The great thing about layers is that you can also take them off if the day warms up which it often does. I request you do not yet bring out the winter boot. If you have light color leather boot or booties great! but it is not time for the high heavy black boot, a fur boot, a snow boot or anything of the like. It's September not November and we have a long and laborous winter ahead of us, we need to keep some of our winter fashions under wrap to give us something to look forward to! This process is also great in that if we are hit with a random 80degree day you are still covered.

To be honest I thought the styling/hair and make up was a bit off and cooky for DVF. I am a huge fan, who isn't the woman is incredible and does what she does impeccably. Although something got lost for me here. "antiquity made modern" was the inspiration. I thought it was more antiquity made a bit weird. The thing that really throws me are the plastic bright colored bangles. I just couldn't jive some how. Don't get me wrong, of course there are some really noted aspects of inspiration and really pretty pieces here. Listen to me all the sudden challenging Diane.... In my opinion I should add... In my opinion!
